Apologies - for broken things!
August 18-19, 2010.
Two separate
server problems, combined with a bug in the iPad version
of Weather Radar Map HD, caused an interruption of radar service
for most of
you. In some cases the app might have even crashed on startup. The server is now
back on line so operation should be back to normal.
Details:
1. One of
the 3 National Weather Service servers, from which the app gets data,
was offline. This is the server located at
http://www.srh.noaa.gov.
2. A separate
server that hosts this web site (wxradmap.com)
was having issues as well. This server also renders the
National Mosaic
view for both the iPad and iPhone versions of the app. The result is
that you were left
without the help functionality and had problems with the National
Mosaic. This server is now back up.
3. Related to #1
above, I found a bug in the iPad version of Weather
Radar Map. Normally, if you have problems getting data from one server,
you can just go to Setttings, and choose another one of the 3 choices.
It turns out that I'd left some test code in the app that was
hard-wired
to the NWS server that was down, therefore switching server choices did
not help! I might have never have found the bug had the server not gone
down.
The good news
is, the bug mentioned in #3 is now fixed and will be
arriving soon to your device, via an update in the App Store. This
new version will also include, an improved user interface and the long
awaited (and most requested feature) - NWS Warning Boxes!
The new version
will be 1.1 and should be submitted to the App Store by
this weekend. So you all should see it soon.
Thanks for your
patience regarding the wounded servers and newfound bug.

Allen Chapman,
